International Data Security User Group

I co-founded the International Data Security User Group, an online community dedicated to advancing knowledge and collaboration around Microsoft Purview data security. Together with Anna Bordioug, I developed the vision and structure for this new initiative: creating an user-group where professionals worldwide can learn, share, and connect. We are committed to a program of at least twelve months, offering diverse online sessions that cover information protection, insider risk, and governance, as well as real-world lessons from the field. By founding this group, we fill a gap for an international space focused specifically on Microsoft Purview. The initiative empowers people to not only stay up to date on new features and best practices but also to exchange experiences across industries and regions. Over the coming year, we will guide step by step in building stronger, more practical data security strategies, to gain confidence and maturity in handling sensitive information responsibly

Blog: Getting Auto-Labeling Right: Practical Guidance for Microsoft Purview (in Dutch)

I authored a practical blog on Microsoft Purview’s auto-labeling feature, explaining how it works and why many organisations struggle with it in practice. I call out common pitfalls like lack of standardisation, noisy Sensitive Info Types and false positives, and give step-by-step guidance: run a data scan, standardise document templates, work with naming conventions, define policy before labels, use Purview’s simulation mode, start small and prioritise adoption. The blog includes examples and screenshots to help teams configure and fine-tune policies. The blog equips practitioners with actionable steps to avoid wasted effort and user distrust in auto-labeling. By reducing false positives and improving detection reliability, it helps teams gain trust in classification, strengthen data governance, and deploy (auto-)labeling in a sustainable way, improving protection of sensitive information across Microsoft 365 environments.

Session Data Security meets Copilot M365 at Dutch Security Meetup

At the Dutch Security Meetup, I provided a session on the security challenges of Microsoft Copilot for M365. While Copilot enhances productivity, it also introduces risks such as data leaks and unauthorized information sharing. My talk focused on establishing the right security and governance framework to mitigate these risks before deploying Copilot. Impact I provided attendees with practical strategies for implementing data classification, access controls, and compliance measures. By breaking down these topics, I ensured that security professionals now feel better equipped to guide their own organizations or clients in securely adopting Copilot while maintaining control over sensitive data.
